The Gymnasion is a multifunctional complex of Radboud University, designed by AAI and taken into use in 2002.
The southern part concerns the Radboud Sports Center (RSC) and was renovated to a limited extent by AAI in 2016. The housing for “Sport and Exercise” of the HAN has been realized in the parking garage under the RSC.
The northern part of the Gymnasion, with offices, student facilities and educational facilities (including for HAN), has been made suitable for the new main user of the Faculty of Management Sciences (FdM), supplemented with general educational facilities, catering and a culture/theatre space for the campus. This required a major expansion and major renovation. The 1st phase was completed in May 2017 and the 2nd phase in December 2017.
From an urban point of view, the complex has been completed with the addition of a 4th lobe on the north side, including an adjustment of the (partially sunken) landscape. Architecturally, the northern part maintains a single appearance, enhanced on the eastern side by the addition of 3 floating “links” between the lobes. The interior, also provided by AAI, has been completely renovated and tailored to the new users.
